Why Zero Waste is Important

At Zentient Culture, we are intentionally and exclusively on tap to reduce the impact of single-use packaging on our environment. We aim to be a zero-waste company. It's not just a slogan or a buzzword for us; it's a way of life. We believe in being responsible stewards of the environment and minimising our impact on the planet as much as possible. We take this commitment seriously and do everything in our power to ensure that our products are produced sustainably and eco-friendly.

 

To achieve our zero-waste goals, we are careful about the ingredients we use in our products. We source our ingredients from local farmers and growers who share our commitment to sustainability. We use organic produce and avoid non-recyclable materials. We reduce our carbon footprint through efficiency-enhancing projects and support local farmers who use sustainable farming practices.

 

One major way we reduce waste is by not using single-use plastic packaging. Our kombucha is exclusively supplied in reusable stainless steel kegs to businesses, which we collect once empty to refill. Our keg recycling program reduces the waste we produce and saves our business customers money by eliminating the need to purchase single-use packaging whenever they want to enjoy our delicious kombucha.

 

Another way we reduce waste at Zentient Culture, is by offering a refillable glass bottle to our retail customers where we sell direct e.g. from our Taproom or markets. The refillable glass bottle we offer can be washed and reused time and time again. Customers are also rewarded with a discount when bringing back bottles to be refilled. Refilling is therefore an excellent cost-saving incentive for the customer and also helps us avoid the cost of buying new packaging for each litre of kombucha we supply.

 

In addition to sourcing waste-free ingredients and avoiding plastic packaging, we recycle and compost. Our fermentary has a robust recycling program, and we compost our food waste. Every little bit helps, and we do our part to reduce the amount of waste in landfills.

 

Being a zero-waste company is complex and requires much effort and commitment. However, it is worth it, and we are proud to do our part to protect the environment. We hope that other companies will follow our lead and take steps to reduce their environmental impact as well.
